Fix The Current Harm
SeaTac Airport plans to increase its flight services to accommodate a rise in regional demand, expanding from 47 million to 66 million passengers. This expansion will double international flights and triple air cargo flights, affecting 419,761 nearby residents. The expansion raises concerns about increased noise and air pollution, which could lead to cardiovascular and respiratory issues, cancer, central nervous system problems, and low birth weight. Additionally, airport flights contribute to 15% of King County's greenhouse gas emissions. The impacted population includes a high percentage of people of color, immigrants, refugees, children, and elders. Studies also suggest ultrafine particles from air pollution can impair lung function and cognitive abilities in children.
